What your junk car is worth — the factors
No honest buyer can quote one price for every junk car. Here's what actually moves the number.
Year, make and model
Some models have parts that sell for years after the car stops running; others are worth mostly their metal. The quote starts from exactly what you have.
Weight and metal
Every car carries a floor value in steel and other metals. That floor moves with the scrap market, which is why an honest buyer quotes the day you ask — not a fixed number for any car.
What still works
A good engine, transmission, doors or wheels on a car that won't drive still count. The condition questions ask about each one.
The catalytic converter
Converters carry real value. A missing or stolen one lowers the number — it doesn't stop the sale.

Las Vegas rules that force the issue
Clark County: not in the yard
In unincorporated Clark County — Paradise, Spring Valley, Enterprise, Sunrise Manor — a car that can't be driven under its own power, or is missing parts needed to drive legally, can't be stored outside at a residence.

In a Las Vegas apartment or condo complex, a car that's obviously not running and visible from the street can't sit in its space for more than seven consecutive days.

Clark County allows a car on a public street for no more than 72 hours, and only if it runs and has current registration. After a warning notice it can be towed — selling first beats paying the impound.

- No. "Junk" just describes condition — it won't run or isn't worth fixing. "Salvage" is a Nevada title brand for cars whose repairs reached 65% of their value. A junk car can have a clean title, and a salvage car can still run.
- What do I do after my junk car is towed?
- Keep your plates, file the DMV's Vehicle Resale Notification within five days, cancel the registration and move or turn in the plates, then cancel your insurance — in that order.
- Do I need to clean it out or get it smogged first?
- Clean out your personal belongings — check the trunk, glovebox and under the seats — and that's it. No smog check is needed to sell to us, no detailing changes the offer, and the plates come off at pickup.
